Clay City advances to sectional semifinals

Clay City junior Dustin Griffith reached base twice via walk during Monday's sectional victory over Union.

JASONVILLE -- The Clay City Eels celebrated Memorial Day with a sectional victory over the Union (Dugger) Bulldogs, 7-1.

Klay Knox held Union at bay with a 10 strikeout performance and allowed just six hits over six innings of work.

At the plate, Clay City tallied single runs in each of the first three innings to take the early advantage.

Brock Dyer and Brandon Wells each picked up a pair of hits along with Derek Miller in the game.

Wells scored a pair of runs in the game and chipped in a double, a walk and drove home two runs. Brandon Mattox added a double, also scored two runs and drove in one and Knox rang up a double, scoring two runs.

Both Dustin Griffith and Ben Harris walked twice in the game for the Eels who advance to play in Thursday's sectional semifinal game.
