Akers' golf career ends at the regional

Tuesday, June 15, 2004

Northview senior golfer Tyler Akers felt he had a chance to advance to the state finals, but things didn't go his way in the Heritage Hills regional at Christmas Lake Golf Course.

Akers fired an 85, 10 strokes behind Heritage Hills' Ted O' Brien and Perry Central's Jess Fousy for the last medalists to advance that weren't on an advancing team.

Evansville Central's Kyle Reddington had the low score with a 70 while Princeton's Matt Hancock also advanced with a score of 73.

"Tyler had a tough day," coach Scott Buell said. "It was a tough ending to a great career and to a great senior year."

Buell stated in a phone message that Akers drove the ball the best he had driven it all year, but things just didn't go his way and he missed a lot of putts.

"It was a great career and a great senior year and we are definitely going to miss him next year," Buell said.
