Brazil will host the 12-and-under District 6 tournament for the Cal Ripken League this week at Roy Bann Stadium.
First round games began July 1 and the tournament will continue through July 5 and includes all teams throughout the Wabash Valley.
The winner and runner-up from each district will advance to the state competition in Newburgh for a chance to become state champions.
The state tournament will consist of the champion and runner-up from each of the eight districts.
Vice President of Clay County Youth League Tony Sciotto believes Brazil will benefit from hosting the tournament.
"I assume restaurants in the area will do quite well," Sciotto said. "Hopefully because we have a concession stand, people will go there and try to help us out."
Sciotto believes this is because some teams will play early in the morning during the weekend and may not play again until late in the afternoon.
Sciotto estimates that approximately 1,000 people will show up this weekend for the tournament.
"We've been planning this for about a month," Sciotto said. "It takes a lot of volunteer effort."
He estimated that around 50 people are needed to help volunteer between keeping books for the games, working the concession stands, taking money at the gate along with several other things.
With the 4th of July and Rotary celebrations, no one should be without entertainment.
"It works out very well in that there is a lot to do in Brazil this weekend," Sciotto said. "I think everyone will benefit."
