The Clay County 12s defeated New Palestine in a best-of-three series over the weekend in Shelbyville to become the Southern Indiana Cal Ripken state champions.
They lost the first game 6-3, but bounced back later Saturday by defeating New Palestine 12-1.
Billy Newton allowed six hits while picking up the win on the mound in the second game.
Sunday, Clay County 12s claimed the title with an 8-1 victory.
Caleb Mason and Trent Lancaster combined for a two-hitter. Mason struck out eight New Palestine batters in five innings. Newton sparked the Clay County offense with a grand slam.
In the series, Newton had four homeruns, including at least one in every game of the series.
Mason, Cam Lumsdon and Justin Kearney all homered once apiece over the weekend.
Caleb Andrews, Austin Sciotto and Lancaster each had big RBI hits over the weekend.
Clay County now advances to the Cal Ripken Ohio Valley tournament in Vincennes.
It will play the winner of Vincennes and Michigan Friday at 8 p.m.
