TERRE HAUTE -- The junior varsity contest between Northview and Terre Haute North got off to a nightmarish beginning for the Knights on Monday evening.
The Patriots took the opening kickoff and marched 45 yards on nine plays for a touchdown.
Not terrible but not great news for the Knights.
However, on the following kickoff the Patriots caused a fumble by the Knights which gave Terre Haute North the ball on the Knights' 35-yard line. Craig Elder then took the ball 33 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the drive for a 13-0 lead with 2:14 remaining in the first quarter.
If you could erase that quarter from the books, the Knights were neck-and-neck with the Patriots through the remaining three quarters, falling 25-7.
The Patriots would actually lead 19-0 before Northview's offense got untracked in the second quarter as a 19-yard hookup between quarterback Zach Sanabria and John Reberger keyed the drive.
Jimmy Clancy followed with an eight yard run to the 22-yard line followed by a six yard jaunt by Antonio Caughlin. After an incomplete pass, Sanabria found Chase Yocom for a 16-yard touchdown pass.
The Knights big opportunity to get back in the game came on the kickoff following the halftime break.
A 15 yard flag after an incomplete pass moved the ball to the 46-yard line and Clancy rambled for 10 yards to the Patriots' 46-yard line. Sanabria found Zach White for a 15 yards and a first down before hooking up with Reberger for a 23-yard pass to the 13-yard line. The Knights would get to the six-yard line on runs from Clancy and Caughlin, but back-to-back incomplete passes would stall the drive and turn the ball over to Terre Haute North.
The Knights were unable to get anything more going on offensively as the Patriots found the endzone one more time on a 26-yard run from Elder in the fourth quarter.
Clancy led the Knights with 91 yards rushing and Sanabria completed five passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.
After allowing 76 yards rushing in the first half, the Knights gave up just 12 yards on the ground in the second half.
The Knights will be back in action at Sullivan on Saturday at 10 a.m.
