In their first year of varsity level boys soccer, the visiting Cascade Cadets faced off with Northview's junior varsity team, earning an 8-1 victory.
"This was definitely a learning experienced," commented Coach Tim Strader, himself a former Northview player. "These games aren't so much about winning, but about getting some of the younger guys some experience on the field. We had about six guys out there tonight who got their first playing time."
The Knights lone goal came from sophomore forward Josiah Brock who scored on a first half penalty kick. He also contributed four shots on goal for Northview. Freshman Zach Childs also had three shots.
"Communication is something we've really worked on," Strader said. "In the second half we definitely got more opportunities. It's very gratifying as a coach (to see the players learning on the field). I think it's a good sign for the future."
In net, Northview got 10 saves from Jacob Lynch who saw time in the first half with Taylor Montague in net for four saves in the second half. Michael Gallion had 10 defensive saves along with Sam Spencer.
The Northview junior varsity team will be back in action versus Terre Haute South on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. The varsity will face West Vigo at home on Thursday night.
