Eels and Vikings win cross country

Elizabeth Beyers placed 11th overall in Tuesday's race at Clay City.

The Clay City boys and the West Vigo girls were victorious in a three-way cross country meet featuring Northview as well.

The Eels tallied 24 team points in the boys event to edge West Vigo's 45 and Northview's 53.

Dustin Souder was the race winner for the Eels with a time of 18:20 followed closely by teammate Logan Bettenbrock just three seconds behind him. In third place was James Grounds who ran an 18:31 ahead of Clay City's Adam Schroer.

Ryan Thompson was sixth for the Knights and Austin Vansickle placed eighth for Clay City. The Eels' Cole Schroer was next in ninth place in 19:28 followed by Logan Wegner of the Knights in 13th and Tyler Moon in 14th for the Eels. Hunter Reberger and Griffin Maurer took 15th and 16th with Ryan Sutton next for Clay City ahead of Kyle Colson who was 19th.

Drew White was 20th, Matt Vansickle of Clay City was 21st ahead of Jordan Maurer and Kyle Grassick.

In the girls race, Emily Pugh was the overall winner in 16:44 but it wasn't enough for the Knights to overcome West Vigo's 24 points. Northview was second with 46 ahead of the Eels' 67.

Kim Deakins placed fifth for Northview in 17:56 while Lacey Rood of Clay City was sixth in 18:01.

Clay City's Elizabeth Beyers was 11th followed by the Knights' Melanie Pugh in 19:52. Felicia Smith was 13th followed by Chelsea Riggs, Emilee Lutes and Hannah Hunter with Danielle Steiner in 17th.

Kayla Pugh of Northview was 21st with Kaylee Bennett in 22nd and Mariella Gallardo in 23rd followed by Whitney Ames of the Eels in 24th.

Both Northview and Clay City will compete in the Shakamak Invitational on Saturday.
