The North Clay Knights edged past Clay City in junior high cross country action on Thursday night.
Carmella Roeschlein and Lyndy Jones finished 1-2 for the Eels in the girls race, but the Knights came out on top in a tight battle, 25 to 36.
Roeschlein finished in 14:09 with Jones close behind in 14:14 slightly ahead of North Clay's Tiffany Young and Casandra Barnett who finished in nearly identical times of 14:23 with Raven Enders rounding out the top five.
In the boys' event Clay City's Braxton Griffith took top honors for Clay City in 12:59 with North Clay's Josh Morris in second with a time of 13:09.
Spencer Barrett was third for the Eels and Eli Kirby came home fourth ahead of E.C. Moody for the Knights as North Clay held off the Eels by a score of 24-35 despite missing one of their top runners in Chris Smith who was held out with a sore hamstring.
Logan Lynch was sixth for North Clay ahead of Seth Wright with Clay City's Parker Modesitt in eighth, Ryan Lutes of the Knights in ninth and Andrew Butts placing 10th.
Rounding out the girls top 10 on Thursday were Allie True and Cory Laue in sixth and seventh respectively ahead of Marissa Bryan and Shelby Bass.
North Clay will compete this weekend in the Shakamak Invitational at 9 a.m.
