North Clay's E.C. Moody was key in the Knight's win at the Shakamak Invite on Saturday.

The North Clay cross country teams were each victorious this weekend in earning team titles at the Shakamak Invitational.

The girls squad got solid efforts top to bottom from their runners and used some excellent pack running to edge past Owen Valley for a 45-54 win over the second place Patriots.

Lindy Jones of Clay City was the meet winner in 13:26, ahead of the second place runner by 11 seconds.

The Lady Knights got a big effort from Raven Enders who took third place overall with a time of 13:39 and got a fifth place finish from Tiffany Young in 13:40 to get off to a great scoring start. Casandra Barnett placed sixth, less than a second behind Young to give the Lady Knights just 14 team points in their first three runners out of five that would be scored.

Meanwhile, Owen Valley got a second place from Danielle Matsel, an eighth place from Hannah Whittington and an 11th place from Caitlin Leichter for 21 points over their first three runners.

However, the Patriots made things interesting as Stephanie Shaw followed Leichter across the line in 12th and North Clay's Corey Laue finished in 15th place to give the Knights just a four point advantage (29-33) with just one runner left to score.

Allie True came up big for the Knights, crossing just seconds behind Laue for a 16th place finish and giving North Clay the team title. However, teammates Marissa Bryan and Shelby Bass were right on her heels giving the Lady Knights a four-girl group that culminated in another victory.

Even more important for North Clay is that their top seven girls are all running within 1:11 of each other heading into the final meets of the season.

Clay City's girls squad placed fourth overall led by Jones' win and a seventh place finish from Carmela Roeschlein.

The North Clay boys also got some strong efforts in their meet to defeat South Knox, 46 to 57 to earn meet honors.

The Knights led off with a close pack effort from Chris Smith, Jared Royer and Josh Morris who placed fifth, sixth and seventh. However, South Knox took the second, third and fourth spots to give them a nine to 18 advantage through three of five runners.

North Clay's Eli Kirby (13th) and E.C. Moody (15th) came through to get the Knights the win as South Knox's four and five runners placed 23rd and 25th.

The Knights also got a 21st place finish from Logan Lynch and a 22nd place from Carson Craft to round out their top 25 efforts.

For Clay City, Braxton Griffith was 10th overall in 12:54 and Spenser Barrett was 11th in 12:57 to lead the Eels to a fifth place finish in the eight team meet. Parker Modesitt was 19th for the Eels.

Coming up for North Clay will be meet's at Owen Valley on Monday and a home meet on Thursday night versus South Putnam at 4:30 p.m.
