Clay City boys win TRC, girls third

Clay City continues to run strong as postseason cross country meets begin to arrive and on Tuesday night the boys' squad won the Tri-River Conference meet in convincing fashion.

The Eels scored 29 points to easily outdistance second place Linton's 67, Shakamak's 76, North Central's 81 and Eminence's 96.

The girls squad would finish third in team scoring behind North Central's strong score of 26 and Linton's 42. The Eels scored 61 ahead of incomplete squads from Eminence and Shakamak.

Logan Bettenbrock paced the boys' team with a third place run in 17:33 followed by Dustin Souder in 17:39 and Cole Schroer's fifth place time of 17:55. Adam Schroer finished in eighth place, crossing the finish line in 18:17 while teammate Austin Vansickle was ninth in 18:24, Ryan Sutton was 17th in 19:20 and Matt Vansickle was 28th in 20:04.

In the All-Comers race, Kyle Grassick placed fifth in 22:02 for the Eels.

For the girls, Lacey Rood was fifth overall in 17:12 with Elizabeth Beyers in 13th place and Kayla Bumgardner in 18th. Chelsea Riggs placed 20th in 20:17 and Danielle Steiner was 25th ahead of Whitney Ames in 26th.

Up next for Clay City will be a visit from a strong Terre Haute North squad on Thursday night.
