Lady Knights win on Senior Night

-Soccer teams receive sectional draw

Celebrating Senior Night on Thursday, Northview's girls soccer team picked up a 4-0 win over Owen Valley to improve to 6-8-1 on the season.

Erin Whitmore got the Knights on the board in the first half before Natasha Barnett sent home the second goal on assists from Whitmore and Maureen Crispin as Northview took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half the Knights continued to dominate play in their offensive end as Vanessa Modesitt was credited with the third goal of the game on an assist from Christine Arvin who also got on the board herself with the game's final goal.

In all the Knights tallied 36 shots on goal while their own keeper, senior Bethany Fagg had to make no saves in the game.

Whitmore led the team in shots with seven with Ahnya Alstott adding five along with Crispin. Kelsey Scroggins led the team with three steals.

The Knights will travel to Southmont on October 5 for a 5 p.m. game with a final regular season game scheduled for October 7 versus West Vigo.

Sectional draws were made for both girls and boys soccer on Thursday.

The Lady Knights will play in the Terre Haute South Sectional and will get the opening game on Monday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. versus Sullivan.

Northview will be looking for a measure of revenge against the Golden Arrows who got six goals from Paige Gill on the way to a 7-1 win over the Knights earlier this year.

"When we play, we play well," said head coach Don Bryan. "I don't think there is any real clear cut favorite unless maybe you give the edge to Greencastle who got the bye.

Wednesday will see West Vigo face off with county rival Terre Haute North followed by Terre Haute South vs. South Vermillion. On Saturday, the Tiger Cubs will face the winner of the Sullivan vs. Northview game followed by the winner's of Wednesday's games facing each other. The championship will follow later Saturday afternoon.

In the boys sectional, the Knights will face Terre Haute North on Thursday night after Terre Haute South plays South Vermillion. On Tuesday, North Knox will challenge West Vigo. Semifinals and the championship game will take place on Saturday at Terre Haute North.
