Knights fail to advance in golf state finals

The Northview girls golf team was unable to advance to the second round of the Indiana State Golf Finals on Friday night.

The Knights finished 17th as a team with a score of 356 to fall short of qualifying for the second round by 17 strokes.

Martinsville leads the first round by one stroke with a round of 321 on Friday at The Legends Course in Franklin. The Artesians lead Western with both Penn and Noblesville tied for third place. Mishawaka Marian is fifth at 330 with Greensburg in sixth at 332, Carmel is in seventh at 335 ahead of Evansville Memorial at 337 and Yorktown at 339.

Richmond and Warsaw were the first team's to miss the cut at 341.

Linton's Rachel Pruett will move on to round two as an individual after firing a six over par 78 to tie her for 14th overall.

The Knights were led by senior Brittany Cheek who shot an 82 followed by freshman Mary Beth Tribble who carded an 86. She was followed by senior teammate Maggie Kirchner who fired a 92 with sophomore Madison Kirchner at 96 and Millie Akers at 98.

Muncie Central's Michelle Morgan is the first round leader at two under par, 70 with Angela Gauck of North Decatur, Emily Johnson of Warsaw and Penn all tied for second with a one over 73.

Second round play continues on Saturday morning.
