Lincoln Park Speedway finished up a great season on Saturday night with the 10th Anniversary of the D.O Racin' Fest.
Despite the frigid weather outside, a great crowd full of hearty racing fans were treated to packed pits and exciting racing on the final weekend of the year. More than 60 sprint cars were on hand to compete for a $2,000 to win main feature with a wealth of extra prize money to be hand for qualifying and two semifeatures as well.
Twelve sprint car drivers chose to pay a $100 entry fee to qualify for a reported $1,400 fast qualifier prize before heat races took place on Saturday night. Levi Jones would take home the big check as the quickest to navigate the 5/16th mile clay oval.
Five sprint car heat races comprised of 12 cars each and 12 laps apiece provided a little of everything for fans. Some fast paced racing along with some hairy moments for several drivers kept the crowd's attention through the early action.
Chase Stockton might have provided the scariest moment when his #32 sprinter blew a motor, resulting in a fire ball in turn one. Fortunately Stockton was able to quickly climb from his car and escape serious injury despite a quick end to his evening. Kevin Briscoe was also uninjured when his #9T ride flipping in turn two on a night when a hard, slick track got the best of more than a couple of drivers.
Jon Stanbrough had perhaps the best heat race drive of the night, coming from the back of his heat to catch Bryan Clauson and John Scott in the final laps of his heat. Clauson and Scott were the class of the field early in the race, pulling out to nearly a straightaway lead over the pack as Stanbrough fought his way around a couple of backmarked cars. Once he got into the clear several laps into the heat, he quickly narrowed the gap between himself and Scott as Clauson reached lapped traffic.
Stanbrough wouldn't settle for third as he split a lapped car and Scott heading into turn three and bulleted past Clauson for the lead and the heat win.
Dave Darland and Matt Neely were semifeature winners with Neely's evening ending with a seventh place finish in the 'B' Main. Darland would move onto the 'A' Main with his 'B' victory and would go onto a 16th place finish.
The 30-lap main event basically was a three car race as Brian Gerster and Stanbrough paced the field and pulled away from the pack with Casey Schuman in tow.
Gerster looked like he was going to be able to hold off Stanbrough, who on Friday night led every lap of the feature before getting passed out of turn four on the final lap. With just seven laps remaining and no caution flags flying, Gerster was only challenged seriously one time by Stanbrough. However, Levi Jones would bring out a redflag with a flip in turn two that also collected Clauson and Jonathan Vennard.
On the restart, Gerster took the green flag into turns one and two where he jumped the cushion leaving the door open for Stanbrough who eagerly took over the point and held off Gerster and Schuman for the victory.
Billy Puterbaugh came home in fourth with Jon Sciscoe in fifth place. Josh Cunningham was sixth, Dickie Gaines placed seventh ahead of John Scott, Justin Marvel and Brandon Petty who rounded out the top 10.
In the Modified main event, Kenny Carmichael was the class of the field, collecting the feature win over Jay Humphrey and James Tumey with Joey Cox in fourth and Zach Fair in fifth.
Terre Haute's Lloyd Walls collected another Bomber feature win ahead of David Wallen and Travis Heramb with Ron Smith in fourth and Orville Engler Jr. in fifth place.
