The Clay City Junior High cross country teams earned a pair of third places in the Southwestern Indiana Conference Meet with the boys' team finishing behind Shakamak's 45 and Eastern's 55 points. The Eels scored 83 points to beat out Bloomfield, White River Valley and both Linton and North Davies who did not field a complete team.
The girls' team was also third as Bloomfield took the team title with 45 points and Eastern was second with 76 points. The Eels scored 85, ahead of White River Valley, Shakamak, Linton and North Davies.
North Davies' Michael Callison was the overall winner with a time of 10:02 with Drew Gambill of Shakamak 10 seconds back.
Braxton Griffith was third overall for the Eels in the boys' race, finishing in 10:58 and teammate Spencer Barrett was ninth in 11:42, Parker Modesitt was 13th in 11:52 with Danny Perry in 27th, Cole Smith in 30th, Austin Sinders in 33rd and Conner Modesitt was 36th.
In the girls' race, Jennifer Hughes of White River Valley won in 11:50 with Lindy Jones of Clay City in second at 11:59 and teammate Carmela Roeschlein in third with a time of 12:09.
The Eels also got a 22nd place finish from Sarah Tobias, a 26th place finish from Lynsey Higgins, Trina Felling was 32nd and Allie Miller was 35th overall.
