Eels hold off visiting Vikings

CLAY CITY -- The Lady Eels jumped to an early six to nothing lead within the first three minutes of the game. They were able to control the pace of the first half with aggressive defense, excellent ball movement and good shot selections. The Eels dominated the first half with a 30 to 11 lead at half time.

However, the Lady Vikings were able to adjust at half time. Barr Reeve knocked down the first jumper of the half narrowing the gap to 17.

They entered the second half equaling Clay City's aggressiveness and execution of the first half. Barr Reeve was able to disrupt the Eels on the offensive end of the floor by pressing three minutes into the third quarter. The Lady Vikings slowly chipped away at Clay City's lead narrowing it to five points with 1:13 left on the clock.

The Eels' defense was able to hold off the late charge and acquire the season's first win. The Lady Eels defeated the Barr Reeve Lady Vikings 46 to 40. Clay City's Whitney McWilliams, a 5'9 junior led the Eels with 15 points. Senior Bryleigh Schopmeyer led the team in rebounds with 10.

The Eels will return to action Monday versus Rockville at home.
