BROWN COUNTY -- Northview's basketball squads picked up a split of their first Western Indiana Conference games on Saturday evening.

Rebounding from a loss to Terre Haute North on Friday night, the Northview boys showed off a balanced attack fueled by their inside duo of Nick Wells and Heath Chamberlain.

The pair combined for 28 points in a 67-55 victory over the Eagles that improves the Knights record to 2-1 overall this season.

Wells led Northview with 18 points in the game and was a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line and Chamberlain scored 10 points as seven different Knights got into the scoring column.

After being tied at 12-apiece through the first eight minutes of the game, Northview broke free with an explosive 23 points in the second period. The outburst gave the Knights a 35-26 advantage at halftime and after struggling offensively in the third quarter, finished strong with another 22 points in the final period to pick up the win.

Brown County's Scott Cheek was deadly from beyond the 3-point line, drilling six from long range for a game-high 22 points and the Eagles hit 10 3-pointers in the contest.

For Northview, senior guard Shawn Hughes hit seven-of-10 free throws for 12 points and the Knights outscored Brown County by 19 points from the free throw line. Sophomore Brinn Meunier scored nine points with Brodee Miller adding 10.

The Knights also won the junior varsity game, though Brown County took them to overtime before Northview prevailed 46-43.

Northview will have the week to prepare for another boy/girl doubleheader against Western Indiana Conference competition with a home tilt with West Vigo on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

In the girls' contest, the Knights didn't have as much luck, dropping their first WIC contest of the season, 44-31.

Junior center, Julie Whitted, had 12 points for the Knights but weren't able to overcome the 5-1 Eagles.

Brown County held the Knights to just 11 points at halftime and hit 15-of-20 free throws to hold off Northview (3-5 overall, 0-1 WIC).

Northview did pick up the junior varsity win with a 34-30 victory.
