The Clay City girls basketball team is riding high as the holidays approach. The team picked up their sixth win of the season against just one loss, by defeating host Vincennes Rivet 67-48.
The Eels held a 10 point advantage at halftime on the strength of nine points from Whitney McWilliams and an eight point first quarter from Cameron Gerber. However, it was the third period that sealed the deal for Clay City.
The Eels' defense held the Patriots to just four points while Clay City hammered out 22 of their own.
McWilliams tallied nine of her game-high 20 points in the period and Chelsee Gerber scored another six as Clay City pulled out to a 28 point advantage, 57-29, through three quarters of play.
In the final period the Eels got some time for their reserves in cruising to the victory.
Cameron Gerber had 13 points for Clay City with Sarah Kennedy adding 10 and Chelsee Gerber had eight for the Eels.
Clay City (6-1 overall) will visit Linton on Thursday, their fourth consecutive road game.
