-Narlock wins three track events for Eels

CLAY CITY -- The Linton Miners were able to defeat Clay City in track and field Monday night.

The Linton boys team won 87-35 over the Eels though Clay City won a couple of events in their season opener.

The 3,200 relay squad consisting of Dustin Griffith, Adam Schroer, Logan Bettenbrock and Jeff Schlack was victorious in a time of 9:03. Kyle Booe led a 1-2 finish in the discus with a toss of 128-4 and Jake Jackson was the runnerup with a throw of 123-0.

Cole Schroer was second in the 110 hurdles and third in the high jump. Dustin Souder had a pair of second place finishes in the long jump and 800. Bettenbrock placed second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200 with Adam Schroer taking second in the two mile.

The Linton girls were also victorious, winning 82-41 over the host Eels.

Rachel Narlock made a strong debut for Clay City, winning three events.

Narlock was a member of the winning 400 relay squad along with Danielle Steiner, Hannah Moore and Andrea Ladd. She also won the high jump by clearing 5-2 and won the 300 hurdles.

Ladd came home first in the 100 meters for Clay City and Kasey Waite was first in the discus with a throw of 103-0 and Jackie Sands was third. Chelsea Riggs was second in the 3,200 and Lacey Rood placed second in the 1,600. Sabrina Liechty was the winner of the shotput with a throw of 32 1 1/2.

Hannah Moore placed third in the 400 and Courtney Dayhuff was third in the 110 hurdles with Amber Skeel was third in the 1,600 and the 800.

The Eels will face off with West Vigo in a track meet at home on Thursday at 5 p.m.
