The Northview tennis team got off to a rough start in their season opener on Monday night, dropping a 4-1 varsity decision to Plainfield.

The doubles team of Ramey Hayes and Laura McCrea were the lone winner for the Knights, winning at number two doubles, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In singles play, Heather Palmer lost 2-6, 1-6 to Bree Oles and Madason Stevenson fell 2-6, 2-6 to Sam DeRoo of the Quakers. Sarah Cox lost 0-6, 1-6 to Katie McCoy.

At number two doubles, Kristy Backfish and Melissa Miller lost a three set decision to Emily Wesseler and Katie Uberto, 4-6, 6-3 1-6.

Northview did win a pair of matches at the junior varsity level with Kellsy Maurer winning 6-2 over Sarah Boyd and Abby Smith winning 7-6 (7-1).

In doubles Chelsea Mershon and Jazmine Kellum were 6-2 winners over A Khan and S.Lee.

The Knights will travel to Terre Haute South on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. match.
