Clay City track splits; baseball downs T-Birds

The Clay City track teams split their three-way meet with South Putnam and Shakamak on Tuesday night.

The Eel girls were victorious with 85 points ahead of South Putnam's 67 and Shakamak's 3 points.

Rachel Narlock was a winner in the high jump (5-0), 300 hurdles (51.5) and was a member of the winning 400 relay team with Danielle Steiner, Andrea Ladd and Hannah Moore that finished in 56.4. Narlock was also second in the longjump at 14-1 with Seymour in third at 13-10.

Ladd also was a winner in the 100 meters in 13.6 followed by Shawna Vinzel and Steiner. Ladd also won the 200 (29.62) with Steiner and Vinzel rounding out the top three and was a member of the second place 1,600 relay team with Amber Skeel, Courtney Dayhuff and Elizabeth Beyers at 5:12.

Hannah Moore won the 800 meters in 2:51 and finished the 1,600 with a time of 6:12.

In throwing events, Kasey Waite won the discus with a throw of 94-2 followed in third place by Sabrina Liechty.

In shotput, Liechty won with a throw of 32-4 1/2 followed by Jackie Sands with a throw of 29-7 and Joannie Beyer in third.

In the boys meet, the Eels lost a close meet with South Putnam 71-69 followed by Shakamak with 14 team points.

Dustin Souder was a winner in the 800 in 2:14 followed by Josey Vansickle in third place. Souder also was second in the longjump with a leap of 17-0 1/4 and Vansickle was third at 16-3.

Souder was also a member of the winning 3,200 relay team in 9:13 along with Logan Bettenbrock, Jeff Schlak and Adam Schroer. Schlak was also a runner up in the 400 meters at 58.1.

Bettenbrock won the 1,600 (4:53) and was second in the 3,200 at 11:04 with Adam Schroer winning the event in 11:03.

Cole Schroer was second in the 110 hurdles (18.9) with Billy Lucas in third. Schroer placed second in the 300 hurdles (47.8) and was fourth in the high jump at 5-4.

In throwing events, Kyle Booe won the discus with a throw of 129-2 followed by Andrew Marrs at 121-9 and Matt Marrs with a throw of 121-3. Jake Jackson placed fourth with a toss of 114-0.

In the shotput, Booe was second with a throw of 40-4 and Matt Marrs was third at 39-0 and Jackson was fourth.

The Eels will be back in action on Thursday with a meet against Sullivan and Bloomfield at 5 p.m.


Clay City Baseball

The Clay City Eels picked up an 11-9 baseball victory over North Central on Tuesday evening.

Klay Knox earned the complete game victory on the mound and also contributed a two-run homerun in the third inning and added a single.

Tim Shaw had a 4-for-4 afternoon and Derek Miller added another three hits for the Eels. Ryan Sutton had both a single and a double in the victory.

The Eels will host Linton for a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
