TERRE HAUTE -- Chalk round one up to Terre Haute South in the season softball battle.
The Braves got strong pitching from Jackie Jacso and South capitalized on a couple of early Northview mistakes and took a 4-0 decision from the Knights.
Terre Haute South led off the game with a bunt single from Britni Cox and Hannah Cooprider followed with a bunt in an attempt to move Cox to second. Cox would beat the throw to second and Cooprider reached safely on the fielder's choice. From there, a passed ball moved the runners to second and third before a wildpitch brought Cox home for the game's first run. Cooprider would score on a fielder's choice bunt to give the Braves the only runs they would need.
Jacso meanwhile would allow four hits in the game, but would scatter them over seven innings and most importantly, she didn't give up a walk and the Braves played error free defense.
The Knights best scoring opportunity came in the fourth inning as Jennifer Gregg slapped an infield single that caught third baseman Mika Brown in the head. Brown would leave the game due to the injury as Gregg reached first base. She would steal second to move into scoring position, but Jacso would coax a popup from Kayla Raderstorf, a groundout from Chandra Burns and then a strikeout from Lindsay Thomas to end the inning.
The Braves would add another couple of runs in the sixth inning on three consecutive hits and Jacso would stifle another brief Northview rally after Thomas doubled in the seventh inning.
Northview (6-3-1 overall) will host Sullivan on Tuesday night at 5 p.m.
