The North Clay girls track team opened their season by finishing second to a strong Honey Creek squad by a 70 to 57.5 score with Rockville placing third with 9.5 points last week.
The Knights had a strong effort in their field events, paced by Shandi Travis who scored a first place finish in the high jump. Teammate Annie Smiley debuted in the event and placed fourth.
In throwing events, Clare Butts placed fourth in the shotput and fifth in the discus while Stormi Raines leaped to third in the longjump followed by Ashley Clarke and Brooklyn Myers who tied for fourth.
Cassandra Barnett had a big day on the track by winning the 3,200 meter event and later coming back for a fourth place finish in the 1,600. Lauren Reberger and Shelby Bass were third and fourth in the 3,200. Allie True placed second in the 1,600 meters and Corey Laue was third.
Laue returned to take second in the 800 meters with sixth grader Raven Enders was third in the event.
Travis raced to a second place finish in the hurdles with Clarke and Amanda Thomlinson coming home in third and fourth place. Cayla Yockey, Elle Kleiber and Stormi Raines came home with a second, third and fourth place finish in the 100 meter event.
Carlee Bell and Shelby Sands began their seventh grade season with a second and third place in the 400 meters for the Knights and would join Kylee Thacker and Stormi Raines to win the 1,600 meter relay. In the 200 meters, Travis and Myers would take second and third for North Clay.
The Knights will return to action tonight when they host Sarah Scott and Owen Valley at Northview High School.
