The Northview golf team got a preview of what could be in store when sectional action comes around at the beginning of June.
The Knights traveled to Rea Park to take on the host Terre Haute South Braves and a tough Linton Miners squad.
The Braves edged out the third place Miners in sectional action last year with the host Owen Valley Patriots coming in second and all three advancing to regional play.
But the Knights were left looking in from the outside, tying nine strokes back with Terre Haute North for fourth place overall.
On Monday night the Braves were once again the top team, getting some excellent scores from unexpected places to squeeze out a 156 to 159 win over Northview with Linton in third at 162 strokes.
"This is probably a matchup of the favorites for the sectional this year," commented Northview head coach Scott Buell. "We really thought we were going to pull out the win tonight but South's No. 6 player shot a 38 and their No. 9 had a 39 which was totally unexpected and they got the victory."
Each team played nine players in Monday's three-way match with the best four scores from each team making up the final score.
For the Knights, Kyle Kumpf and Roy Wyndham each carded a 39 to lead the way with Devin Whittington shooting a 40 and Adam Thiemann at 41. Josh Conway scored a 41 with Austin Schutte at 42, Jeremy Johnson at 43, Pat Czizek shot a 46 and Clint Grey had a 47.
The split moves the Knights to 7-2 in matches this year with a Thursday trip to Geneva Hills to take on South Vermillion.
