Northview tennis wins tourney; Knights win in 'C' baseball

The Northview girls tennis team squeezed past visiting Greencastle in their own invitational this weekend by scoring 25 team points to the Tiger Cubs 21. North Montgomery was third with 14 and Linton-Stockton was scoreless.

The Knights had four champions in the weekend tournament with No. 1 singles player, Heather Palmer earning a victory followed by Melissa Miller at No. 3 and the doubles team of Laura McCrea and Ramey Hayes at No. 2.

The Tiger Cubs won the other two positions with Ellen Hanson taking the No. 2 singles championship and the doubles team of Anna Harmless and Makenzie Carr winning the No. 1 doubles spot.

Northview's Kristy Backfish made her way to the championship match at No. 2 singles before falling to Hanson. Backfish however was the consolation winner along with teammates Sarah Cox and Madason Stevenson in the No. 1 doubles spot.

The Knights are scheduled to face West Vigo in a WIC match on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.

Northview 'C' Team

Baseball

The Northview 'C' baseball team earned a 7-1 victory on Friday night under rainy conditions at home.

Trey Horn pitched a five inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts with no walks against the Warriors to earn the win. He also contributed three RBIs to his own cause with a hit. Alex Smith added two hits and drove home a run and Jared Lumsdon added a hit of his own with an RBI. Curtis Peters also picked up a hit in the game.

The lone Danville run came on an error and a pair of wildpitches.

The Knights will face Bloomington South on Wednesday evening at 5 p.m.
