Northview girls compete at WIC meet
Andrea Thomas clears the pole on her way to a WIC championship in the pole vault. Thomas was also the top seed in the event.
ELLETSVILLE -- The Western Indiana Conference girls track meet nearly made it under Mother Nature's radar on Wednesday night, but an impending storm and the lightning that it carried with it finally caught up to the competitors at Edgewood High School during the running of the 3,200 meters.
The race was completed with Northview's Emily Pugh winning the event to add it to her third place 1,600 finish. Only the 1,600 meter relay was left when competitors vacated the track with lightning having been sighted.
Though final results were not readily available at presstime, several Northview athletes had completed the meet with top finishes.
Ashley Davis placed second in the discus, throwing more than two feet farther than her seeded distance of 104-0. She then came back to take the WIC title in the shotput ahead of Edgewood's Maegan Williams.
Andrea Thomas was the winner in the pole vault for Northview and Hannah Hunter scored important points in the high jump and 400 meters for the Knights.
A full story and results will be printed as the final statistics are reported.
