Knights tennis wins WIC championship

The Northview tennis team won their first Western Indiana Conference championship on Friday when they defeated Sullivan 3-2 in a rain delayed match played at the DePauw University Courts due to rain on the makeup date.

The Knights got a quick opening win from Heather Palmer who won 6-0, 3-0 as Kendra Howard was forced to withdraw due to injury at No. 1 singles. But Sullivan came back to take a three set win at No. 2 as Beth Gettinger downed Kristy Backfish with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win. Melissa Miller also fell in three sets for Northview in singles play.

Northview however came back to take both doubles matches to take the WIC title.

Sarah Cox and Madason Stevenson defeated the team of Sarah McKain and Rachael Catlin, 7-6, 6-3 and Ramey Hayes and Laura McCrea took a 6-4, 6-1 decision from Amber Shatto and Kaitlin Arnett.

The Knights are scheduled to face Bloomfield this evening.

Northview vs Sullivan match was rain delayed on Saturday May 7th and concluded on Friday 13, 2005 at Depauw University Courts due to rain storm on makeup date. The match determined the WIC Champion.

Northview 3, Sullivan 2

#1 Singles: Heather Palmer(NV) won over Kendra Howard(S) 6-0, 3-0 (withdrew because of injury)

#2 Singles: Kristy Backfish(NV) lost to Beth Gettinger(S) 1-6, 6-4, 1-6

#3 Singles: Melissa Miller(NV) lost to Ashley Artz(S) 6-4, 0-6, 2-6

#1 Doubles: Sarah Cox-Madason Stevenson(NV) won over Sarah McKain-Rachael Catlin(S) 7-6, 6-3

#2 Doubles: Ramey Hayes-Laura McCrea(NV) won over Amber Shatto-Kaitlin Arnett(S) 6-4, 6-1
