East and West split in All-Star games

Terre Haute South graduate Armon Bassett displayed all the talents that attracted various Division I interest during the WTHI-10 Wabash Valley All-Star basketball game on Saturday night.

Bassett, who will attend Hargrove Military Academy this Fall, scored 17 of his game-high 34 points in the fourth quarter as his West (recent graduates) squad defeated the East (seniors-to-be) by a 105-99 squad.

In the girls contest, the East was paced by Northview senior-to-be, Julia Whitted who scored 14 points, leading her team to a 74-58 victory.

The boys West squad exploded out to a 35 point first quarter when they hit seven of their 18 3-pointers to take a 35-21 lead and despite being outscored in the middle two quarters held on for the win.

Terre Haute North's Dan O' Leary added another 30 points for the winning squad. Northview graduate Heath Chamberlain had 12 points and Shawn Hughes added eight points for the East team. On the West squad, Clay City grad Brock Dyer added a pair of points.

The senior girls squad got a nine point performance from Northview's Laura McCrea and Cameron Gerber of Clay City chipped in five points for a team that was lead by Sullivan's Ally McKinley with 13. On the senior-to-be team, Clay City's Whitney McWilliams had five points, including a 3-pointer and Northview's Jennifer Gregg had four.
