Two of the state's top-ranked small school cross country teams squared off as part of the Riverton Parke Invitational on Saturday with South Knox edging out Clay City for the team title with 36 points. The Eels were second at 52 followed by North Central's 73 to round out the top three in the 13 team field.

South Knox is ranked second behind Dubois according to Indianarunner.com in a poll including small schools (enrollment of 416 or fewer). The Eels come in third in that same preseason poll.

Robert Shiflett of North Central, a All-TRC performer last year for the Thunderbirds, was the overall winner of the race with a time of 17:23. Adam Schroer was third in the race for Clay City, finishing in 17:40 and Logan Bettenbrock also cracked the top-10 for the Eels with a sixth place finish in 18:02.

The Spartans of South Knox placed their top-five runners in the top-12 to take the top spot and Clay City's Tyler Moon was 11th in 18:47 with Braxton Griffith in 15th with a time of 20:24 and Cole Schroer was 17th in 20:30.
