Knights sweep past Eels and Vikings in cross country

E.C. Moody ran a personal best time and placed ninth overall for Northview on Tuesday evening.

James Grounds and the Northview Knights are coming on strong at just the right time as cross country sectionals quickly approach.

Grounds ran the third best time ever at Northview High School as he lead the boys team to a tri-meet victory over West Vigo and Clay City.

The Knights scored 25 team points as Grounds ran a 16:25 to beat out Clay City's Logan Bettenbrock who ran a strong 17:01 himself. The Eels had 35 team points, but the Knights placed their top five runners in the top 10 to take the victory.

E.C. Moody also had a huge effort, shaving 1:15 off his previous best time and came through with ninth place overall which was the Knights fifth score and clinched the meet over a strong Eels squad who also got a fourth place run from Adam Schroer in 17:22.

Northview's Landry Moore placed third overall in 17:15 and freshman Chris Smith was fifth in 17:33 followed by Logan Wegner in seventh (17:43), Clay City's Tyler Moon in 17:55), E.C. Moody's ninth and the Eels Kevin Cook was 10th in 18:01.

The Knights also took the girls event, edging out the Vikings 35-37 with Clay City scoring 55.

West Vigo's Hannah Switzer was the winner in 17:20 with the Knights Hannah Hunter in second with a time of 17:50. The Vikings took three of the top four spots, but the Knights got a sixth place run from Allie True (18:25), seventh place from Jennifer Jeffers (18:40) and a ninth place from Cassandra Barnett (19:00). The Eels were lead by Rachael Narlock in fifth place at 18:32 with Andrea Ladd in eighth at 18:59 and Alisha Drake in 10th in 19:02.

Amber Skeel was 13th in 19:56, Erica Kimmel was 21st in 22:31 and Whitney Ames placed 22nd.

Next up for the Knights and Eels will be a trip to the Shakamak Invitational which will also include a junior high meet for each school beginning this Saturday at 9 a.m.
