Colin McHargue tips a pass away from a receiver in a game earlier this season. McHargue and the Knights defeated Edgewood 24-6.
The North Clay seventh grade football team traveled to Edgewood and came home with a 24-6 victory over the Colts.
The Knights' defense kept the game scoreless in the first half and came out firing in the second half with a 40-yard sweep for a TD from Zac Niehaus. Trent Lancaster completed the two-point conversion pass to Niehaus.
Ben Crafton highlighted a strong defensive effort with four second half sacks and a pair of solo tackles. Eric Liddle, Niehaus, Cameron Muncie, Andrew Butts, Wade Langley and Tyler Dickison all had good defensive games.
In the final minutes of the third quarter, Neihaus broke free for a 40-yard TD run around the rightend and Lancaster found Tyler Trout for the conversion and a 16-0 lead.
Opening the final period, Hunter Robertson found the endzone on a halfback pass with Lancaster hitting John Rollings with the conversion.
The Colts scored late in the game and attempted an onside kick that North Clay's Josh Bowles covered to complete the victory. Next up for the 5-1 Knights is a home game Tuesday night versus West Vigo beginning at 6 p.m.
