Friday's scenery should provide a familiar environment for the Northview girls golf team.
The Knights will take part in the Indiana High School State Golf Championship for the fourth consecutive year beginning with round one play on Friday morning. The top nine teams and any team within 12 strokes of the lead after round one will advance to Saturday's final round. The top nine individuals, excluding those that advance with teams, will also move on from Friday's round.
Madason Stevenson will be the first Northview golfer to tee off at The Legends of Indiana Course in Franklin. She is scheduled to tee off at 8:09 a.m. followed by teammates Madison Kirchner (8:18 a.m.), Jenae Huffman (8:27 a.m.), Millie Akers (8:36 a.m.) and Mary Beth Tribble (8:45 a.m.)
For Kirchner, Akers, and Tribble, this is a repeat trip after participating in last year's state championship. Northview opened with a 169 on the front nine and finished with a 356 but didn't qualify for second round play.
Linton's Rachel Pruett also qualified for state play and will tee off at 8:45 a.m.
Of Northview's returning players, Tribble lead the squad with her round of 86. She shot a 43 on each side that included a pair of birdies. Madison Kirchner shot a 96, but got into a bad streak on the front nine where shot double bogeyed (or worse) on four straight holes. With a year of experience, her round could drop considerably.
Akers had some of the same difficulties in her round, opening the round by going 10 over in the first four holes of her round. In her third year of state championship experience, Akers should be comfortable on the course and help her team with her experience.
The Legends of Indiana Golf Course is located at 2555 N. Hurricane Rd. in Franklin and admission is $5 per person.
