Following another superb year, the Northview girls golf team celebrated their season with their annual awards banquet on Sunday.
The Knights put together a year that included a berth in the IHSAA State Finals at The Legends Course in Franklin, IN and along the way had quite a few other highlights to remember.
Northview registered a sectional championship on their home course as they shot a sectional record round of 325 to beat out Jasper and took third place in the regional to earn their fourth consecutive berth in the state finals. Earlier in the season the Knights boasted a runnerup finish in the Brebeuf Tourney and a third place finish in a top-notch field at the Valparaiso Tournament that was won by this year's state champion, Penn. The state's fourth team at the IHSAA Finals was Valparaiso who was second ahead of the Knights in the Valpo Tourney. The team was also fourth in the Mooresville Tournament at the beginning of the season and followed by winning the Terre Haute South Tournament before starting the regular season.
This year's Northview squad was paced by sophomore Mary Beth Tribble who received the award for Lowest Putting Average over 18-holes and the season. She was accompanied by a very strong cast however as Milie Akers was part of the 18-hole course record for the Knights and hit the Most Greens in Regulation. Madison Kirchner was a part of that 18-hole record along with Madason Stevenson who also received the Senior Award along with Erika Tucker and Kayla Duregger.
Jenae Huffman was one of the most stabilizing players on the team and helped strengthen the Knights top-five immeasurably along with Kirchner and Abby Smith. Huffman received a Senior Award and the Captain's Award and helped the Knights to their 18-hole record. Savanah Pursell was the Most Improved Player for the Knights who look forward to another strong season next year, returning several of their top players and improving players such as Sunny Shaw.
