Right: Clint Reynolds (#32) leaps for two of his 12 points in Monday's freshman victory.

The Northview hit seven first half 3-pointers while building a comfortable lead, but then had to hold off a furious second half rally by Owen Valley in boys freshman basketball to earn a 61-46 victory.

The Knights were on fire in the early stages of the game while the Patriots gave Northview plenty of space to operate their offense. Meanwhile the Knights did an excellent job of knocking down their open shots from the perimeter while they built a 38-20 advantage at the half.

Ethan Tanner hit five-of-eight shots from the field before the break and Austin Akers hit four from long range as Northview looked ready to put the game away early.

Tanner scored the first two baskets of the second half as Northview led by 22 points in the early stages of the third period. But the Patriots took a timeout and began to apply full court pressure with immediate results.

The Patriots forced three consecutive turnovers on inbound passes and put together a 14-6 rally to end the third quarter trailing just 46-34.

Owen Valley's Tyler Collier scored a pair of baskets and Randy Lientz added another two hoops to close the gap for the Patriots.

In the fourth period, Owen Valley continued their pressure, scoring eight of the first 10 points with Jordan Keller scoring the only basket for the Knights in the run. Tanner however would give the Knights a spark scoring a basket and adding a hoop off a steal to give Northview some breathing room at 52-40.

Owen Valley responded with a rebound basket from Lientz with Kyle Faulkner and Nick Leach getting the Patriots to within 52-46.

But the Knights would get their feet under them and put the game away.

Tanner would intercept a pass at midcourt and go the distance for a basket with 1:48 to go and Mitch Haviland scored off the break. Clint Reynolds would respond with a pair of free throws while Owen Valley missed three straight shots from the field. Meanwhile, the Knights finished the game on a 9-0 run over the final two minutes to even their season at 1-1 overall.

The Knights were led by Tanner's 23 points with Akers next at 13 and Reynolds tallying 12 and Keller provided seven.

Next up for the Knights will be a boys and girls freshman doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
