The Northview Knights made a successful debut in the 2005-06 wrestling season on Saturday by earning a 4-1 dual team record at the Bloomington North Invitational.
Tommy Herr-Smith and Greg Stultz each were a perfect 5-0 on the day and Northview placed seven other wrestlers at 4-1. Both wrestlers had four falls in the tournament with Herr-Smith contributing 28 team points and Stultz 30 for the Knights.
Against the Eagles in the opening matchup, Northview got falls from Beau Pingleton at 119 and Zach Stultz at 135 along with Brandon Hathaway in the 140 pound bracket, Herr-Smith got his pin in just 1:10 as the Knights got past the Brown County by a 42-33 decision. Also in the win, Chris Craft had a 9-6 decision and Brian Griffin won by a 9-3 count.
In the second match, Northview posted a 54-18 win over Paoli with Josh Longo drilling his opponent with a 16-0 win at 112 before Pingleton, Craft, Hathaway, Hank Weishaupt, Stultz and Robbie Pasalich all won by fall. Zach Stultz won a 7-5 decision and Herr-Smith rung up the points in a 20-12 victory.
The Knights dropped a tight 45-33 decision to New Albany that could have been much different if the squad wouldn't have been forced to forfeit at 103 and 171. Chris Dean was also lost in the first match of the afternoon due to injury against Brown County. So giving up three weight classes, the Knights were still very game for the battle with Longo earning a fall in 1:58 at 112. He was the only Knight to win in the lower classes as the Bulldogs earned a couple of wins by fall and a 7-3 decision at 125.
Zach Stultz got the Knights a 4-1 win at 135 and Herr-Smith won by fall in 1:59 and Weishaupt got a 59 second pin before Greg Stultz pinned his opponent in 3:48. Pasalich also won his match by fall to keep Northview close.
The Knights earned a 45-30 win over the host Cougars while Longo had a pin in 42 seconds and Pingleton got a pin in 5:32 before a 12-2 win by Craft and a 54 second pin by Griffin. Zach Stultz dropped a hard fought 3-1 decision but Hathaway won by fall in 56 seconds and both Herr-Smith and Greg Stultz won by fall.
In a 59-12 win over Mitchell, the Knights got seven falls to get their fourth victory of the afternoon.
Up next for the Knights will be a road trip to Bloomington South on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. dual match.
