Krista Stearley (#30) drives past a West Vigo defender on her way to eight points in a Northview win.
Northview's defense swarmed all over West Vigo in junior varsity girls basketball Tuesday night and the Vikings had no response in getting hammered 46-11.
The Knights got off to a strong start in the first quarter, outscoring the Vikings 19-4 and from there the defense took over. Northview's girls held the Viking scoreless for more than 15 minutes spanning the second and third quarters and into the fourth period. Meanwhile the Knights spread out their offensive load and got out to a 40-4 lead at one point.
Traci Sanders got the Knights going in the first quarter with seven points and Hannah Hunter added another two baskets to take a commanding lead early in the game. The defense did their part as well, trapping and pressing the Viking guards who had plenty of trouble getting the ball over the halfcourt line let alone looking at the basket.
Northview spread out their offense, getting eight players into the scorebook led by Sanders' 10 points and eight from Krista Stearley. Tara Crooks chipped in with another seven with Hannah Hunter scoring six, Abby Birkey five and four apiece from Stormi Raines and Erica Lee. Ashley Hargis added two points.
