Traci Sanders lauches a shot during Tuesday's win over Sullivan.

The Northview Lady Knights notched a first-round win in the WIC junior varsity tournament Tuesday, dispatching the Sullivan Lady Arrows 39-27.

The win came against an inexperienced Sullivan team-- their seven-player roster was composed entirely of freshmen, while only three of Northview's 10 players were competing in their first high school season. Junior Kayla Raderstorf led the way for the Knights, scoring 11 of Northview's 17 first-half points and establishing an imposing inside presence on defense.

"Kayla had an outstanding game," said Knights Coach Jennifer Daughtery. "We pounded it into the middle and Kayla was there. She did well for us."

The Knights dominated Sullivan on the boards throughout the contest. Raderstorf gathered 15 rebounds on the night, and Northview outrebounded the Lady Arrows 33-18, severely limiting their second-chance opportunities on the offensive end.

Sullivan played the Knights evenly in the first quarter, forcing Northview to take tough shots; the Knights went 0-6 from behind the three-point line in the first. But Raderstorf picked up her teammates' slack, shooting 3-5 from the floor and scoring seven of the Knights' eight first-quarter points.

Northview continued to struggle from the field in the second quarter, but key contributions from Raderstorf and Stephanie Plummer allowed the Knights to pad their lead against a sputtering Sullivan offense. Northview held the Arrows to two points in the second quarter and led 17-8 at the half.

The Knights continued to distance themselves from the Arrows in the second half. Sullivan continued to struggle to find an answer to Raderstorf, who racked up another nine points in the third. The Arrows forced the Knights to the foul line in the fourth quarter, but Northview responded, knocking down 8 of 10 late free throws to cement the victory.

Northview will take on the winner of Tuesday's West Vigo vs. Owen Valley game tonight at 8 p.m.
