Sarah Kennedy tallied 18 points for Clay City in the Eels' loss to Owen Valley.
The Owen Valley Patriots showed off their firepower in their rematch versus a Clay County opponent on Monday night, outscoring Clay City 75-53.
The Eels hung tough with Owen Valley through the first quarter, trailing just 19-15 despite 10 points from the Patriots' Sam Stahl.
Stahl would be the story in this game, scoring 37 points for the Patriots who were coming off a Friday loss to Northview. For the game, she hit 15-of-21 shots from the field and was seven-of-eight from the line.
Sarah Kennedy got off to a strong start for the Eels, scoring eight of her team-high 18 points to keep Clay City close, but Owen Valley kept up their torrid pace in the second quarter as well.
Stahl, Owen Valley's high-scoring junior guard, scored another 11 points in the second period and the Patriots pulled out to a 38-21 advantage at halftime.
Kennedy, after being held scoreless in the second quarter, added another eight points in the third quarter as Clay City rang up 18 points, but the Patriots wouldn't falter in keeping the Eels at bay.
Clay City's Whitney McWilliams had 15 points for the Eels with Chelsee Gerber adding five and Angie Camp four points.
The Eels are now 7-6 on the season and will host Class A No. 3 ranked Bloomfield on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
