Jonathan Bradshaw (#32) and his eighth grade North Clay squad won the WIC title on Saturday.
North Clay's boys basketball teams opened the season with their sights set on a conference crown and the eighth grade squad accomplished their goal on Saturday by taking a 48-38 victory over Brown County and finishing off a Western Indiana Conference championship by downing Owen Valley 58-37 in the title game.
The eighth grade squad defended the conference championship that they won last season as seventh graders and completes a 16-1 mark this year and a two-year mark of 31-5 for the 'A' squad. The 'B' teams meanwhile were unbeaten as both seventh and eighth graders showing that the North Clay bench is unmatched in their strength and contributions.
Also in eighth grade play, Carlisle advanced in the opening matchup with Sullivan, 50-39 before Owen Valley romped against Edgewood 61-39. In the final first round game, Brown County advanced with a 59-44 victory over South Vermillion which advanced them into the game against North Clay.
Owen Valley advanced to the championship game against the Knights with a 57-30 win over Carlisle.
North Clay's seventh grade squad came up just short in their quest for a conference title, falling in Spencer to Edgewood 58-39 in the championship game.
The Knights advanced in their opening game with a 54-28 win over South Vermillion and moved to the title game with a 51-26 victory over Owen Valley.
The squad ends with a record of 11-6 overall.
