Northview freshmen, Clint Reynolds (#32) and Ethan Tanner (#34) attempt to block an outlet pass against Greencastle.
Coming off a split of their weekend games at the North Montgomery Tournament, Northview got a superlative effort from guard Clint Reynolds who blew up for 28 points in a win over Greencastle.
Reynolds got his evening off in style by hitting his first three 3-pointers and five of six in the first half as Northview took a 34-22 advantage at the break.
Greencastle hung tough with the Knights, getting eight first half points from Greg Lilly to keep the game close.
Northview pressured the Tiger Cubs with their full court trap after most made baskets and were able to force eight first half turnovers. However, Greencastle was able to break the press for a few easy baskets of their own.
The Knights were electric with their shooting touch, as Reynolds' outside prowess and passing ability opened up lanes to the post for Jordan Keller's six points. Northview hit 12-of-18 (66 percent) from the field before halftime to take the double-digit lead.
Opening the third quarter, Greencastle got off quickly on a rebound basket from Kyle Nobles and Drew Stewart scored off a long rebound and fast break hoop to get Greencastle within 34-26.
Mitch Haviland responded by scoring off a nice pass to the post from Reynolds. The two teams traded baskets for a few minutes before Keller scored off a feed from Ethan Tanner and Reynolds hit a short jumper to give the Knights a 42-30 advantage. After two free throws from Stewart, Haviland scored off a Reynolds pass to renew the 12 point advantage. Griffin Moore retaliated for Greencastle with a 3-pointer, but the Knights got a free throw from Haviland and a 3-pointer from Reynolds.
The lead would continue to grow in the fourth period on a basket from Tanner off a steal, a Keller basket underneath and back-to-back scores from Reynolds and a 3-pointer from Tanner to extend the lead to 57-38.
The baskets were part of a 10-0 run for the Knights that also included a free throw from Damon Smith and the Knights cruised to their ninth win against five losses.
For the game, Northview shot a robust 61 percent from the field (25-of-41) and were led in rebounding by Haviland's six. The Tiger Cubs were led in scoring by Nobles who had 10 points and six boards.
Next up for the Knights is a game on Jan. 30 against North Central at 6 p.m.
