Northview's freshman boys basketball team overcame a sluggish first-half performance to beat North Central 52-36 Monday.

Northview mitigated a miserable first half with a 23-point third quarter and a solid performance at the line, earning the non-conference victory to improve their record to 10-5 on the season. The Knights may have finished with a 14-point win, but Coach Zach Keyes was less than pleased with his team's slow start.

"We played awful (in the first half). We just weren't ready to play," he said. "In the second half, we played the way we should've played for all four quarters and we took control of the ball game."

The Knights looked strong early in the first quarter, running up a 6-0 lead while holding the Thunderbirds scoreless for the first two-and-a-half minutes. North Central answered with an 11-4 run to end the quarter, then held the Knights to six points in the second for an 18-16 halftime lead.

But the Thunderbirds faltered in the third, shooting a paltry 3-for-11 from the field and surrendering the lead for good. Clint Reynolds and Ethan Tanner combined for 18 points to lead the Knights' third-quarter rally.

Tanner led all scorers with 21, followed by Reynolds' 15. Nate Williams and Mitch Haviland each chipped in five for Northview.
