Clay City junior high teams split games

Clay City seventh grader Haley Bryan scored four points in a win.

The Clay City junior high girls basketball teams split their games versus Shakamak this week.

The seventh grade squad rallied past the Lakers with an 11 point fourth quarter to earn a 20-18 victory.

Lindsey Hughbanks knocked down a pair of 3-pointers for the Eels to spur the comeback and both Caroline Beyers and Haley Bryan scored baskets in the fourth quarter.

Hughbanks led the Eels with 13 points with Bryan adding four points and Beyers chipping in with three.

The eighth grade squad got 19 points from Lindy Jones but fell short of Shakamak in a 31-25 decision.

Shelby Targett contributed four points in the contest.

Next up for the Eels is a trip to the SWIAC Tournament at Eastern this weekend beginning at 10:30 a.m.
