Heath Wells brings the ball up the court during Wednesday's freshman win. Wells had eight points and eight rebounds.
After a disappointing first round loss against Sullivan in the Western Indiana Conference tourney last week, the Knights regrouped in style against visiting South Vermillion Wednesday night, 69-17.
Northview's defense sparked their offense, with defenders flashing through the passing lanes to force a handful of early turnovers that the Knights flashed to the hoop for transition layins. The Knights got rolling early to take a 20-8 first quarter lead with Jordan Keller providing seven early points. Heath Wells was key on the boards, hauling down five first quarter boards.
Already boasting a double-digit advantage heading to the second period, the Knights had little trouble continuing to build on their lead.
Northview rattled off a 15-0 run to open the period, highlighted by a 10 second streak that featured a score by Keller and then a steal by Ethan Tanner on the inbound pass for a reverse layin and then a second quick steal for the Knights leading to a hoop by Keller who finished with 20 points.
The spurt gave the Knights a 29-8 advantage on the way to a 43-13 margin at halftime.
Northview spread the scoring around in the second period with Clint Reynolds recording five of his 10 points in the quarter and Tanner adding eight more points in the period.
There was more of the same in the second half despite the Knights slowing their transition game and loosening the pressure in the backcourt.
Heath Wells had half of his eight points in the second half along with eight rebounds and Nate Williams had a big final quarter, hauling down seven of his eight boards in the fourth.
The Knights would hold serve in the second half, cruising to their 11th win of the season against six losses.
In their loss to Sullivan on Saturday, Northview got 18 points from Reynolds, with three 3-pointers, and 13 points from Tanner, but dropped a 51-42 decision.
Up next is a road trip to Bloomfield on Monday evening beginning at 6 p.m.
