North Clay grapplers pin down Cloverdale

North Clay's wrestling team got off to a roaring start in Monday's dual match against Cloverdale, winning the first nine matches on the way to an 80-36 victory.

Caleb Nicosin opened the match by shutting out Tyler Haraizel before both Austin Bell and Skylar Hall pinned their opponents. After Austin Sciotto received a forfeit at 85 pounds, Luke Pingleton continued the streak with a 6-3 decision and Carson Craft pinned Jeff Couse in just 1:32.

At 105 and 110, Tony Cooksey and Eric Hamblen received forfeits before Cloverdale got on the board with their first points.

Chris Payne got a forfeit at 120 pounds for the Knights and Brandon Mikesell won 14-2 at 125 pounds before a 6-4 decision at 130 pounds for Broc Potter.

The Clovers won four straight decisions to narrow the gap with North Clay but Tommy Holifield pinned Zach Couse at 165 pounds in 44 seconds and Brad Powell put John Cartnell on his back at 180 pounds in just 11 seconds. Beau Judd got a forfeit at 275 to wrap up the North Clay victory.

Clayton Neff won his exhibition match at 125 pounds with a pin.

Wabash Valley Wrestling Club

The Wabash Valley Wrestling Club competed in the Crawfordsville Folkstyle Tourney on Saturday with several competitors finishing highly.

Winners on the afternoon included Chris Craft in the Junior Division, Keiontre' Wilkey in the Midget Division, Tommy Herr-Smith was the champion in the Cadet Class, Zach Stultz won in Cadet and Northview graduate Cory Grigsby was third in the University class.

Evan Hendrich, age four and a half, was fifth in the Pee Wee class and his brother Jacob was first in the Bantam class.

There will be signups for the freestyle season on Tuesday, March 14 at North Clay beginning at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 for those already holding membership for folkstyle and $50 for new members.
