Northview's Neil Vanatti ripped off a school record throw of 51-11 1/2 in a NSR qualifying meet on Saturday.
Northview senior thrower Neil Vanatti demolished the school shotput record on Saturday afternoon in a qualifying meet for the state NSR track and field meet.
Vanatti unleashed a throw of 51-11 1/2 to easily outdistance his record of 49-10 set last year. Saturday's effort puts him solidly in the top-12 in the state which qualifies him for the NSR Finals on Saturday at Indiana University.
Nick Gebert was 10th on Saturday with his throw of 43-1 1/2 for the Knights.
Also in competition this weekend, Logan Wegner placed ninth in the 3,200 meters with a run of 10:46 and Eli Kirby was 24th in 11:27.
Jamie Bays ran a 6.92 in the 55 meters which was good for 10th while Shawn Hardey was 14th in 6.99.
Bays and Hardey combined with Broc Miller and Devin Chamberlain to place 12th in the 4X200 relay, running a 1:37.12. In the 4X800 event, Hunter Reberger, Drew White, Chris Smith and Landry Moore ran a 9:17.84 to place 10th.
In the distance medley, E.C. Moody, Jared Royer, Ryan Lutes and Griffin Maurer ran an 11:59 for 10th place overall.
In the girls event, Renee Leslie was 24th in the 55 meters, running an 8.31 while teammate Kylee Thacker was 34th in 9:04.
Shotputter Ashley Davis was 14th with a throw of 31-10 for the Knights and the 4X400 relay squad was 13th in 4:39.49.
Northview will compete in the Greencastle Invitational on Tuesday night at DePauw University beginning at 5 p.m.
