The Northview Lady Knights opened the 2006 season with guns blazing, scoring 10 runs on 12 hits to dismantle Owen Valley's Patriots in four-and-a-half innings.

The Lady Knights (1-0) hit for a .480 team average in their first game of the season, scoring in each of the four innings they came to the plate. Northview's defense-- specifically, the two-hit shutout thrown by staff ace Stephanie Jonson-- achieved a similar dominance.

"That's the best I've ever seen this group of girls hit. They were just killing the ball tonight," said Coach Bethany Jones. "And Stephanie pitched an awesome game too."

Jonson fanned Owen Valley's first three hitters (she would strike out another five before the end of the game), and Northview's offense sputtered briefly before a Kayla Raderstorf double ignited a two-out tear for five runs.

The Lady Knights coasted through the next three innings before the game was called, per the 10-run "mercy rule". Jonson helped her cause on the mound with a 2-3, 2 RBI performance at the plate. Traci Sanders hit two triples to go 2-3 with 3 RBI.

Not to be outdone, Northview's junior varsity tagged Owen Valley for 13 runs before the game was called after three-and-a-half innings. Freshman hurler Shelby Colson pitched four hitless innings, narrowly missing a perfect game with a second-inning walk. Catcher Brittaney Searing, whose double in the second scored three and gave the Lady Knights an 11-0 lead, went 3-3 with six RBI.
