Solid openers for Eels and Knights

The Terre Haute South Braves won their third straight Northview Invitational held at Forest Park Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.

The Braves carded a team score of 298 to beat Linton by 12 strokes and host Northview by 14 strokes in the nine-team field.

South was led by Mark Metheny in the sunny but cool conditions. He shot a one-under par round of 70 that included a front nine 37 followed by a 33 on the back nine. Teammate Travis Smith placed second overall with his round of 72 for the Braves.

Northview, starting a pair of freshmen, shot a team round of 312. The team was paced by one of those freshmen, Kade Baker who shot a 74 and teammate Adam Thiemann was second for the Knights with a 78.

Clay City's Fred Modesitt finished in a tie for fourth overall with a 74, shooting a 36 on the front and a 38 on the back for the Eels who were tied for fifth as a team at 321.

Also for the Knights, Kyle Kumps and Austin Akers each shot a 79 for Northview who will get another shot at the Braves on South's home turf at Rea Park on Wednesday.

Clay City got a round of 80 from Joel Farmer followed by Carson Hendrix at 81 and Mike Hogan at 86. The Eels will travel to Rockville on Tuesday.
