Knights can't overcome Patriots in opening track meet

Wednesday, April 12, 2006

The Northview boys track team fell just short of picking up a team track victory on Tuesday evening, dropping a narrow 70.5 to 61.5 decision.

The team got victories from Neil Vanatti in the shotput (46-8 1/2) and Nick Gebert (140-6) in the discus while Jared Timm was the winner in the 400 meters with a time of 54.1. James Grounds got the victory in the 3,200 for the Knights in a time of 10:55.

The Knights also won a pair of relays, taking the 400 and 1,600 relay events.

Northview swept the 3,200 as Logan Wegner and Eli Kirby placed behind Grounds and the Knights also swept the 400 with Landry Moore and Zach Sanabria taking second and third.

Second place finishes came from Vanatti in the discus, Brodee Miller in the high jump and Cole Doyle (10-0) in the pole vault. Drew White was runnerup in the 800 with Hardey second in the 200.

On the girls side, the Patriots took a dominating victory, winning 107 to 25.

Ashley Davis won both the shot (34-1) and discus (102-0) events and Kaley Huffman was the runnerup in the 100 and 200 meter runs. Brittney Spugnardi was second in the 800 for the Lady Knights.

Next up for Northview is a road meet next Tuesday against Riverton Parke and South Vermillion.
