In their opening contest of the season, following a rainout at Bloomington North on April 8, Northview proved that they are quite resilient.
The Knights fell behind four separate times, before Alex Wallen drove home a pair of runs with a two-out RBI single in the bottom half of the fifth inning to defeat Terre Haute North 8-7 on Wednesday.
Terre Haute North posted a run in the top of the first inning before Northview knotted the score in their half on a leadoff single by Wallen, who moved to third on an overthrow by the Patriots. She would score on a double by Shelby Colson, tying the game at 1-all.
North once again went ahead by a run in their half of the second inning, but the Knights rallied.
Krissy Johanningsmeier singled with one out and Misty Rissler drove her home with a two out single.
The tables tipped back to the Patriots in the third inning, going ahead 3-2, before Northview made a statement in their half of the frame.
Wallen reached base once more to leadoff when her infield popup was dropped. Colson followed with her second hit, a single and Erica Lee walked. Katie Smith drove home the first run of the inning with an RBI groundout to even the score at 3 a piece. Erica Matson would crack the game open with a two-run single to rightfield to give Northview their first lead of the game, 5-3.
Terre Haute roared right back to open the fourth inning, scoring four runs after walk and an error opened the inning. Another error continued the game and the Patriots scored several runs on a several fielder's choice infield hits. Northview would get out of the inning after allowing four Terre Haute North runs to take a 7-5 lead.
The Patriots got Krista Vanatti on a groundout to lead off the inning and Rissler strckout, but reached first when the ball squirted free from the catcher. She moved to second and Wallen reached on a walk before Colson got her third hit of the game, driving home a run.
Colson would set the Patriots down without a score for the first time in the top of the fifth inning to give the Knights a last shot.
Smith walked to get the Knights rolling quickly and Matson sacrificed her to second with a bunt. Johanningsmeier singled to short leftcenterfield and Vanatti walked to load the bases.
North dodged the first bullet by getting a forceout at home on a Rissler groundout, but Wallen came to the plate and smacked a hot grounder through the infield for a two run single and the victory.
The Knights will take on Terre Haute South on the road Monday beginning at 5 p.m.
Northview 'C' team baseball
Northview improved to 2-3 overall this season with an 11-1 five inning victory cut short by the 10-run rule on Wednesday.
The Knights got a one hit outing from Nick Lancaster who struckout three batters while walking four in the game.
Freshman Damon Smith had a double and drove in a couple of runs for the Knights in the game.
