Northview's JV baseball squad dropped another tough decision on Monday evening, falling 6-5 on the road to Mooresville. The Knights have lost their last three games by a total of five runs.
Matt Deakins pitched solidly in the start for the Knights while Nick Lancaster came in in relief and got the hard luck loss in extra innings.
"I was pleased overall with our pitching," commented coach Scott McDonald of his team. "Mooresville is a very good hitting team."
The offense was paced by JJ Smerdel who smacked three hits, including a double for the Knights while Alex Smith, Curtis Peters and Jordan Pond all got into the extra base parade with two base hits.
"We hit the ball very well," said McDonald. "Unfortunately later in the game they made some outstanding plays that cost us at least three runs."
But on the bright side for the Knights, the defense made some good progress in the field which should pay dividends down the road.
"The guys are working very hard at improving and it is showing in their all around play, we just have not gotten the necessary breaks to win. Once they learn to do the little things that help you win games, they are going to be difficult to deal with," commented McDonald.
Northview will be back in action on Thursday at home versus Terre Haute South.
