The Clay City baseball and softball teams split a pair of road matchups on Thursday evening.
The baseball squad got a complete game three hit shutout from Andre Hayes in blanking Rockville by a 6-0 count to improve to 3-7 overall.
The softball team wasn't quite able to duplicate the boys success when Owen Valley scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overtake the Eels in a 4-3 defeat.
In the baseball game, Hayes was the story along with a power surge from Matt Vansickle and Will Kennedy.
Hayes shutdown the Rox while Vansickle drilled a two run homerun and Kennedy responded with a three run shot of his own in the victory. Clay City took advantage of three Rockville errors to score their six runs, having only six hits themselves.
In the softball contest, Clay City got on the board first with a single run in the opening frame but Owen Valley answered with two runs and took the lead in the fourth inning.
The Eels came right back in their half of the sixth inning by taking a 3-2 advantage before the Patriots made their final rally in the bottom half of the inning.
Emily Reed had a pair of hits for the Eels, going 2-for-3, while Kayla Bumgartner drove home a run for Clay City. Chelsee Gerber had a hit and scored twice and Danielle Schindler had an RBI with a hit to go with a hit from Kylee Knox.
The Clay City softball team drops to 4-6 overall and will host Union on Monday while the baseball team will be back in action next week.
